The Frontier Country Route

The route derives its name from its turbulent history, as it was the scene of 9 Frontier Wars between the British and the Xhosa in the 19th century.

A trip through Frontier Country exposes the traveller to diverse scenery, offering African valley bushveld fading into hazy rolling blue hills, mountain ranges and valleys, thickly wooded kloofs and lush forests, scrub bush and Big Five encounters with its malaria and bilharzias-free reserves and a fascinating history of frontier conflicts.
